Healthy EKG Program

Wintergreen Fire And Rescue has developed the Healthy 12-Lead EKG as a free service to members of the Wintergreen community. Capturing a 12-Lead EKG (ElectroKardioGram) from participants when they are are feeling well provides a baseline for evaluation by physicians in emergency situations where a cardiac event is suspected, possibly allowing for quicker diagnosis and more timely treatment.

The process of capturing the 12-Lead EKG is painless, takes only minutes and can be conducted at either of our stations or in the comfort of your own home. The process starts with filling out a short form that provides your address and some basic health information and signing a consent form. Once the paperwork is out of the way, the EKG itself consists of attaching 10 electrically conductive leads on various parts of your chest and limbs. Once that is done, the actually EKG consists of sitting still for approximately 30 seconds while our state-of-the-art cardiac monitor captures the traces of the electrical conduction in your heart. Our medics then obtain a baseline set of vital signs, such as blood pressure and pulse rate, and we're done.

Once the information gets back to our station, we make copies of the originals and file them on each of our ambulances and medic response units within locked storage areas to insure the privacy of your medical information. Now, in the event of a medical emergency, we have a record of your normal EKG for comparision.

To arrange for your EKG, please contact the Fire and Rescue personnel at either station.
