Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish a standardized method for requesting vacation.

 

Policy:

Operations personnel shall be given the opportunity to select vacation time on a monthly basis depending on seniority.  Employees should have his/her request into the Officer in charge of scheduling by the 15th of the month prior to the vacation request.  The Officer in charge of scheduling shall have the vacation calendar out to employees prior to the 1st of the month the vacation is requested.

 

Employees shall fill out the vacation request form and submit to the Officer in charge of scheduling no later than the fifteenth (15th) of the month prior to the date requested off.  The Officer in charge of scheduling will approve or deny the request and a photo copy will be placed in the employeeÕs mailbox or an e-mail will be sent.  If the request is approved, a copy will also be placed in shift captainÕs mailbox or an e-mail sent for his/her notification.

 

No less than twelve (12) hours will be approved for vacation.

 

Vacation Selection:

The vacation selections shall be made based on the following:

n  No more than two (2) persons per shift will be allowed vacation leave at a time.

n  If the request for vacation is made after the 15th of the month prior to the month requested off  then it is the employees responsibility to find his/her replacement.

n  The shift Captain and shift Lieutenant will not be allowed to request vacation on the same day.  If an unforeseen incident arises and both are off then the most senior person on that shift would be the officer for that 24 hour period.  It would be the responsibility of the Officer in charge of scheduling to designate that person prior to the start of the shift.

n  The following Holidays will not be approved for vacation request unless the employee has already found coverage which is approved by the Assistant Chief in charge of scheduling.

o   Memorial Day

o   July 4th

o   Labor Day

o   Thanksgiving Day

o   Christmas Day
