Purpose: To create a uniform procedure regarding the use and operations of ATV 1.

 

ATV Operator:

The ATV operator uses the All Terrain Vehicle class off-road vehicles to complete fire management or rescue activities, including scouting and preparation, fire operations and post-burn monitoring and follow-up.  The following standards are designed to ensure operational  safety and proficiency have been taught and exhibited in the consistent manner.

 

Training Required to Operate:

The ATV Operator must have appropriate training to operate ATV or UTV equipment. ATV/UTV training must cover the following subject areas:

  1. Basic ATV/UTV design: controls, warning labels, operator's manual and equipment safety features.
  2. Routine inspection and maintenance.
  3. Hazards associated with ATV/UTV use.
  4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe riding practices.
  5. Hands-on demonstration of safe riding skills, including: starting, braking, turning, traversing terrain and obstacles, and parking.
  6. Operation of pump and associated equipment.

To be released as Driver:
