Purpose:

To establish a standard set of guidelines to follow when a station becomes unmanned.

Policy:

If a station is unmanned for a brief period of time, the Shift Captain shall alert Wintergreen Dispatch of such via radio to tone both the Fire Department and Rescue Squad asking for available volunteers to man the station.

If station will be unmanned for an extended period, the Shift captain shall request Wintergreen Dispatch to tone both Fire and Rescue to announce the empty station and request any available volunteers to fill quarters.

The Shift Captain has the discretion to ask Wintergreen Dispatch to fill quarters with a mutual-aid agency. Rockfish Fire and Rescue shall be assigned to the Valley Station, and Wilson Fire or Montebello Rescue shall be assigned to the Mountain Station. Stuarts Draft Rescue may also be requested to fill quarters at Station 1 during periods when the Parkway is closed.
