Purpose:

To establish guidelines outlining the backing procedures for all apparatus.

Policy:

All operators of emergency apparatus shall abide by the following.

· The operator shall stop the vehicle and completely circle the apparatus making sure there are no obstructions or dangers. (Exception is Wintergreen Dr. at Station 1)

· If available, a spotter shall stand to the rear of the vehicle, visible to the operator at all times, and assist with backing. Backing without a spotter shall be reserved for the direst occasions.

· Members are encouraged to use cameras in apparatus (if equipped) in coordination with mirrors

· Truck 1 shall not move in reverse without a spotter in place.
