

Purpose:
The purpose of this SOG is to establish universal Decorum.
Policy:
When
Wintergreen Fire and/or Wintergreen Rescue receive a call, the following
terminology will be used.
Rescue
Squad Volunteers should use the following prefixes then their assigned radio
number. The following prefixes
will only be used when responding using a private vehicle.
Walkie – A volunteer with no
training.
Driver – A volunteer trained
in EVOC and released to drive.
EMT – A volunteer trained
at the EMT-Basic level and released to practice.
Trauma – A volunteer trained
to the Shock Trauma /Enhanced level and released to practice.
Medic – A volunteer trained
to the Medic level and released to practice.
Fire
Department Volunteers should use the following prefixes then their last
name. The following prefixes will
only be used when responding using a private vehicle.
Firefighter – A member of the
Fire Department
The
following prefixes will only be used when marking a piece of apparatus responding. Use the prefix then the assigned
apparatus number.
If
apparatus is a transport unit, state level as below, then ÒunitÓ to alert
dispatch that this apparatus is a transport vehicle, then the apparatus number. This does not apply to response vehicles.
Example: Dispatch, Trauma Unit 177
responding to Ski Patrol.
Unit – EMT level crew
Trauma – Shock Trauma
/Enhanced level crew
Medic – Medic / Paramedic

Squad -- Truck carrying tactical
and technical equipment
Response – A non-transport
quick response vehicle
Engine – Truck carrying
water and equipment used for fire fighting
Brush – Truck carrying
water and equipment used for brush fires
Attack – Truck carrying
water designed for initial structural attack
Tanker – Truck carrying
greater than 1500 gallons of water and able to transfer water with a low capacity pump.
Truck – Aerial platform
with full engine capabilities, salvage supplies, tools, and equipment.
Career
personnel will use the following prefix when needing to identify them on the
radio.
Chief 1 – Chief of Fire and
Rescue
Chief 2 – Chief of Fire Operations
Chief 3 – Chief of EMS Operations
Career
personnel will use their last name after the prefix
Captain – Supervises daily
operations
Lieutenant – Supervises daily
operations in the absence of the Captain
Firefighter – Career personnel
D-Shift:
personnel will use their Level Prefix and radio number provided by the Chief
of EMS Operations.
