

Purpose:
The purpose of the policy is to create a uniform procedure on how apparatus shall be inspected.
Policy:
Each piece of apparatus has an assigned day during the week on which that unit shall be inspected using the daily assignment check sheet. These daily checks will begin at 08:30 or no later than 09:00. These check sheets when completed shall be turned into the Assistant Chiefs. (Faxed to Station 1)
In addition to the assigned apparatus for the day, personnel shall start and run all Rescue Transport Units in the station. Personnel will also complete a quick equipment check on these units to include but not limited to; Fuel, Oxygen, Lights: emergency and non-emergency, Drug Boxes, Monitor, and Spinal Immobilization Equipment. If there is a known piece of equipment that has problems, that piece too will be started and run on a daily basis. The equipment status board at each station shall be updated daily.
Shifts are assigned apparatus which shall be inspected once a month using the appropriate inventory check sheet. Check sheets when completed shall be turned into the Assistant Chiefs.
Any problems found during the inspection should be noted on the check sheet and a Chief notified if the problem was uncorrected. If appropriate, the ÒIn-House CoordinatorÓ, the ÒOut-sourced Service CoordinatorÓ, or the appropriate small equipment service coordinator shall be notified via e-mail. (ADM 04-003) Depending on severity of the issue, the OIC shall be notified so the issue can be resolved.
Any piece of apparatus being placed out of service needs to follow SAP ADM 04Ñ003.
