Purpose:

To provide a clear and concise understanding of the response procedures for handling calls within our first due in Augusta County.

 

Definitions:

Our first due area is considered the Blue Ridge Parkway from milepost 5 to 20 and for Rescue only; Reeds Gap and Love Gap Roads. The Rescue Squad is also responsible for Sherando Lake through a Mutual Aid agreement with the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad.

 

Policy:

When a call is received, the appropriate apparatus shall immediately respond following SOG Comm 04-001 (Radio Procedures). The first out piece shall not wait for volunteers no matter the nature of the call.

 

Radio traffic from response vehicles will be kept on Wintergreen 1 unless they are the only unit responding to the call. Examples: first response or ALS assists.

 

Fire units will not respond to EMS calls. Exceptions: Motor Vehicle Crashes and special requests.

 

Minimum staffing does not apply to these calls.
