

Purpose:
To establish the qualifications for releasing members to drive department apparatus.
Policy:
Members shall complete a certified Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) at the appropriate level prior to beginning the release process. Members wishing to drive fire apparatus or the Heavy Squad Unit must complete EVOC class III. Members wishing to drive only ambulances must complete EVOC class II.
Rescue squad members must complete a certified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course.
Rescue Squad members who joined after July 1, 2009 must maintain certification as a
First Responder Ð Basic
Drivers for the Heavy Squad Unit must complete a Vehicle Extrication Course at the minimum, but prefer Basic and Light Duty Rescue or Ropes I as well.
Fire apparatus drivers are preferred to have completed a Basic Pump Course and/or Firefighter One.
Truck 1 operators must have completed an Aerial OPS course.
Members must demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of all equipment and its location on the apparatus.
Fire Apparatus Release:
Members must demonstrate proficiency in pumping in addition to the above.
Rescue Apparatus Release:
Members shall tour each of the three primary hospitals in addition to the above.
All members must demonstrate proficiency on all equipment annually through training drills conducted by Assistant Chiefs and/or Chief.
