Purpose:

The purpose of this SOG is to create a uniform procedure on when to connect to and how to support a sprinkler system.

Policy:

When responding to any building with a sprinkler system with confirmed fire in the structure, an engine will connect to the sprinkler system in preparation to support such system.

Upon arrival under the above circumstances one line not less than 2 ½Ó will be connected. It should be verified that valves are in open position.

It shall not be charged without the consent of or a direct order from the officer in charge.

The fire should be located immediately to see if the system has extinguished or is holding the fire under control.

If support must be established a second line not less than 2 ½Ó shall be connected and the system is to be charged slowly to no more than 150psi.

The system should not be shut down until the fire is confirmed to be under control.

Engines and hose will remain connected to the system and personnel shall stand by the valve while overhaul is being completed in preparation to recharge the system if needed.

The proper managing authority will be notified so the system can be restored.
