Project LifesaverWintergreen Fire and Rescue has partnered with Project Lifesaver International and the Nelson County Sheriff's Department to provide specially trained and equipped teams to find and return wandering adults and children to their families or caretakers. With Project Lifesaver, individuals with high wandering risk, such as Alheizer's Patients, Autistic Individuals and Special Needs Children, can be equipped with specially designed radio frequency bracelets, that allow rapid and accurate tracking of these people. If a person with a Project Lifesaver bracelet is reported missing, highly trained rescue teams are deployed with tracking tools to locate the individual. Once found, these teams are also trained to approach the person, gain their trust and return them safely to their home. According to Project Lifesaver statistics, in over 1500 reported searches with their equipment there have been no reported injuries or fatalities and average search times of 30 minutes or less. Wintergreen Fire and Rescue is able to provide this equipment for both long-term use for our residents as well as shorter periods for at-risk visitors to Wintergreen Resort. Contact Chief Dobie Fish at 434-325-2200 ext. 9270 for more information about this program. |
