Water Vault Program

With the advent of of our Water Vault Program, Wintergreen Fire And Rescue has developed an innovative solution to the fact that certain areas of our Stoney Creek coverage area have limited or no fire hydrant access. The traditional Fire Service response to fires in such areas has been to respond with fire engines with limited water supplies and then to rely on 'water shuttles' provided by 'tanker' truck fire apparatus to eventually provide needed water for fire fighting operations. We realized that due to the distances and response times of these 'tankers' in our rural area, that more water was required faster to provide the most effective fire coverage.

With the assistance of our Property Owners in affected areas, we are strategically placing 'Water Vaults' to store the required water to initially fight fires until the arrival of additional water supplies. These 'Water Vaults' are concrete tanks, buried along the roadside, capable of holding in excess of 2000 gallons of water, with connections to allow our fire engines to hook up and pump the water to where's it's needed.

If you are interested in getting more information about this program, please contact Chief Curtis Sheets at 434-325-8536, or Captain Barry Eastep at 434-325-8536, and they can provide you with the requirements and other information.
