Structure Fire - Nellysford

Wintergreen Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a possible electrical/stove fire in a kitchen at a residence in the Nellysford area. When crews arrived on location they found smoke coming from the first floor of the residence and was met by the occupants of the home. The occupants reported a loud noise/explosion prior to seeing smoke from their stove in the kitchen and thought it may have been related to a lightning strike. When crews were completing their 360 of the residence they found heavy smoke in the basement at the rear of the house and the seat of the fire in a utility room. There was a tree on the property adjacent to the house that appeared to have been recently struck by lightning. Crews from Rockfish and Wintergreen Fire Departments were able to quickly get water on the fire and get it under control keeping it contained primarily to one room in the basement. Rockfish Fire Department had several members, a tanker, and engine on location. Units on scene from Wintergreen Fire Department were Tanker 62 and Attack 62. Thank you and great job to all involved!
