The insurance industry rates Wintergreen's firefighting abilities among the best
ISO is the private risk assessment company which establishes strict quality benchmarks and metrics from which most insurance companies bases their premiums on risk of fire.
In January 2026, we received a formal notification stating that Wintergreen had a Class 3 status. (See the letter HERE.)
ISO scores range from 10 to 1, with 1 being the best. There are very few Class 1 departments in Virginia.
When the audit of our service finished in 2025, we reported that of the 776 departments scored in Virginia, only 19 had a score of 3 or higher. At Class 3, we ranked among the top 2.4% of all Virginia fire departments.
None of this would be possible without the support of our community. We sincerely thank all the Wintergreen owners and Nelson County residents who continue to support us.–Chief Curtis Sheets
Last night was huge for Wintergreen Rescue! At the annual awards ceremony for the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council Wintergreen…
Wintergreen Rescue Squad was recognized by the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council during their 2016 Awards Ceremony held in May.
A lot of rescue agencies from all over Virginia spend the entire year sharpening their skills for the Va Beach competition. To ride out of town with several trophies is a pretty big deal.
The criteria for this award is any individual who demonstrates the ability to organize, conduct, manage, problem solve and evaluate within his or her organization and, by exemplary leadership and administrative skills, improve the effectiveness, response and delivery of EMS.
It is exciting to be able to say Wintergreen has a Championship Rescue Team in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Wintergreen Property Owners Volunteer Rescue Squad was honored with the TJEMS Regional Award for Outstanding EMS Agency of the Year 2012.
