Structure Fire - Wintergreen Mountain

Wintergreen Fire Department and Wintergreen Rescue Squad were dispatched for a possible structure fire on the mountain during a severe thunderstorm. Upon arrival the first in crews noted some smoke coming from the eaves. When they entered the structure they noted heavy smoke and a glow coming from what they would realize to be the kitchen area. The crew was able to get a quick knock down of the the fire. The storm caused additional challenges for this fire as many roads were blocked by trees delaying a response from the valley station as well as Rockfish Fire Department. While the fire is still under investigation it is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike. No injuries were reported by the occupants or firefighters on scene. Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners for your response to this call.
